WATCH: Sophie De Goede wrapped up an incredible 2018-19 season with the Queens University Gaels by receiving the U Sports Women’s Rugby Player of the Year award. The Oak Bay Secondary Grad received the award as her Gaels begin competition at the U Sports Women’s Rugby National Championship.

And if you need any more proof that Vancouver Island is a rugby factory, well this year’s U Sports Women’s Rugby Rookie of the year hails from Sooke. Rori Wood played a vital role in her first season with the UBC Thunderbirds and played this past summer on the U18 Canadian National team.
