Two robbery attempts foiled in Courtenay Tuesday night

Comox Valley RCMP is trying to determine if two attempted robberies in Courtenay Tuesday night are related.

In both incidents, the suspect came away empty-handed after a struggle with the victims.

The first attempt happened around 6:10 p.m. in the 4700-block of Headquarters Road in Courtenay.

The suspect male went into a business demanding money but fled empty-handed after a brief struggle with employees.

The suspect is described as a white man standing 5’9″ tall and weighing 170 pounds and was wearing dark clothing, gloves and a balaclava.

A second robbery attempt came just after 11 p.m. in a parking lot in the 300-block of Hunt Road in Courtenay.

The suspect approached a person getting into their vehicle and demanded cash.

The victim fended off the man while he tried to access the car and the suspect fled.

He is described as 5’10” tall and weighs around 170 pounds and was wearing a patterned jacket and a balaclava.

RCMP say no one was hurt in either incident and advises people to not put up a fight.

Police say do as you are told and call 911 as soon as possible.
