Emergency crews responded to a quiet residential area of Comox around 8:15 p.m. on Friday after reports of a head-on crash between a motorcycle and an ATV.

“It was unusual for an area of Moralee Drive because it’s a suburban quiet street so we didn’t know what to expect when we got there,” said Comox Fire Assistant Chief Jim Lariviere.

When he arrived on scene, he found that two victims had been on a motorcycle and a three-wheel ATV when they hit head-on.

The two were seriously injured.

“They were already on the ground, on the lawn of somebody’s home,” added Lariviere. “Members of the public were there, there was a nurse, she was there helping out when I got there.”

CHEK News was told on the scene that the two who were injured were from a home close to the crash scene and friends and family were being consoled by people on the street.

“The neighbourhood was affected because it was right there. There were people out on their driveways and people around the corner from the accident could hear the crash and came over,” Lariviere said. “As a matter of fact that’s where the nurse that showed up on scene was from.”

An RCMP crash investigator analyzed the scene as is protocol in serious incidents.

The victims are a 19-year-old man and a middle-aged man. There’s no word from police of what may have caused the crash.

One victim was flown to Vancouver and the second was flown to Victoria for treatment. There was no update on their conditions Saturday.
