The Victoria Humane Society said two new moms are helping to nurse a litter of golden retriever puppies that were orphaned after their mother died during birth.
The 11 golden retriever puppies were born on Tuesday during emergency surgery, hours after a Bernese mountain dog gave birth to a little of nine puppies at the Victoria Humane Society during emergency surgery.
The Bernese mountain dog then started to nurse her own litter and the golden retriever litter in shifts. The Victoria Humane Society turned to the public and asked if anyone had nursing dogs that could provide milk to the puppies and give the Bernese mountain dog a break.
By Wednesday night, the animal rescue said it had two new mothers to care for the golden retriever puppies. The golden retriever puppies are now in a foster home.
“Our momma was very sad to see them go…(she whined and cried when we took them away) but now that she has only nine pups, she can get some well need rest!!” the Victoria Humane Society wrote in a post.
The golden retriever puppies are now in a foster home with one of the nursing mothers. The Bernese mountain dog and her puppies are in another foster home.
