Police say they seized two large boxes of marijuana after an early-morning collision in downtown Victoria.

According to police, officers saw a grey BMW run a red light at View and Douglas streets around 8:30 a.m. The driver fled from police and collided with another vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man was found a short distance away allegedly trying to hide two large boxes of marijuana. Police said the marijuana was supposed to go a cannabis store.

Victoria police are recommending several charges, including possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.

Police are asking any witnesses who were in the 700-block of Yates Street this morning between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. and saw a grey BMW driving the wrong way down Yates street between Douglas and Blanshard streets to call them at 250-995-7654.
