The Greater Victoria School District says Victoria High School experienced a COVID-19 exposure on April 6 and 7.

The Greater Victoria School District (GVSD) says there has been potential exposure to COVID-19 at two schools in the region.

GVSD officials say Victoria High School had potential exposure on April 6 and 7, and Mount Douglas Secondary School had a possible exposure on April 6.

District 61 says, “Island Health is completing contact tracing to identify any individuals that need to self-isolate or self-monitor for symptoms.”

There are currently 10 other schools within Island Health that are on the health authority’s Exposures in Schools list.

Island Health has warned students, parents and staff to expect rising school exposures in the coming weeks due to a surge in COVID-19 cases over spring break.

With a growing concern surrounding case numbers and COVID-19 variants in British Columbia, some parents have opted to pull their children out of school due to the increased risks.

An exposure is defined by Island Health as a single person with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period.
