West Shore RCMP said a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl were arrested for mischief Sunday after public property was spray-painted on Station Avenue in Langford.

On May 5, West Shore RCMP said a person reported witnessing a group of youth spray-painting a building and a hydro box near the bus exchange on Station Avenue.

West Shore RCMP officers went to the area and found two girls, ages 12 and 13, who witnesses said were the ones spray painting the property. Both girls were arrested for mischief and released to their parents.

The two girls will be required to appear in court. Their names cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

“Defacing public and private property effects the community in several ways. One of which is the sheer cost of cleaning up the damage, but also graffiti has the potential to attract other criminal activity to the area. We want to thank the witnesses who came forward and called us right away,” Const. Nancy Saggar, media relations officer for the West Shore RCMP said in a statement.
