A man and a woman were arrested Wednesday morning after police discovered a marijuana growing operation at a Central Saanich house.

According to Central Saanich Police Deputy Chief Derren Lench, police were informed about a grow-op on Bella Vista Drive near Wilcox Terrace a couple of weeks ago.

Lench said the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) went to the residence along with Central Saanich Police to assist with the arrests and contain the residents. The GVERT ensured the residence was safe then turned it over to Central Saanich Police investigators.Lench said the grow-op took up most of the house. Approximately 500 marijuana plants were seized.

The two people who were arrested are still in custody and police will be recommending several drug-related charges.

Investigators will then examine whether any property or money was obtained from proceeds of crime.

“It’s essential to keep Central Saanich safe from illegal drugs,” Lench said, adding that police always act on a timely basis after they receive information about drug-related activity.
