A man and woman have been arrested, after sparking a search in Thetis Lake Thursday following reports of a firearm being spotted.
West Shore RCMP responded just after 7:30 a.m. to the 2000 block of Gourman Place in View Royal, after a woman was allegedly spotted holding a handgun.
The woman and a man then walked in to Thetis Lake Regional Park. A large amount of officers arrived and began working their way into the park through the network of trails.
“To ensure both public and police safety the officers redirected hikers already in the park and prevented several park enthusiasts from entering the trails while they searched for the suspects,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar from the West Shore RCMP in a statement.
The two were found around 8 a.m. and were taken in to custody without incident. The handgun was seized from the man’s waistband.
Both will appear in court, and an investigation is ongoing.
West Shore RCMP say these incidents present a real risk to both public and police safety.
“If you are handling a firearm, real or otherwise, in a manner that presents a threat to public safety, the police will respond accordingly and you may find yourself arrested and the subject of a criminal investigation,” added Saggar.
