The blast of snow that hit the Comox Valley Tuesday has forced the closure of schools in the region Wednesday.

The Comox Valley School District says Cumberland, Miracle Beach and Royston schools are closed because side roads are in poor condition.

Buses for those schools are not running.

The school district says G.P. Vanier Secondary is open but is affected by north and south rural buses not running.

A power outage since Tuesday night on Denman and Hornby Islands, which is affecting more than 2,200 BC Hydro customers, has forced the closures of all schools on the Islands.

Officials say the closures are for safety reasons for students and staff.

North Island College says Wednesday all campuses are open and classes are running as scheduled.
