Tseshaht First Nation school closed after death of young student

A school in the Port Alberni area will be closed for the rest of the week following the death of a young student.

An urgent notice was sent out to parents and caregivers of Haahuupayak Elementary School stating that the school will be closed from Wednesday to Friday “out of respect for the family who has lost a loved one.” Students are off next week for spring break.

The notice also said the student who passed away was part of the Haahuupayak family and thoughts and prayers go out to the family in their time of need. The principal will be at the school tomorrow to address any questions or concerns parents or caregivers may have.
