Traffic stop ends with short chase in Campbell River

Campbell River RCMP arrested a man after a short chase Sunday morning

Campbell River RCMP responding to a report of a truck being stolen were led on a short chase early Sunday morning.

According to the RCMP, police responded to a report at approximately 5:40 a.m. of a truck being stolen from a resident’s driveway. The vehicle was located by patrols soon after and a traffic stop was conducted.

As the stop was conducted the driver of the truck suddenly fled and collided with a police car. The truck then tried to make a left hand turn a short distance away and collided with a commercial building.

Police were on scene immediately and took the driver into custody.

The RCMP say that there were no injuries resulting from the incident and the damage to the building was minimal. Police are still investigating.

The RCMP say that the suspect driver is a Campbell River resident that is known to police.

The driver will appear before a Justice of the Peace later today.
