Motorcyclist killed in crash at Cumberland and Union intersection in Saanich

Police say a serious collision happened at around 12 p.m. on Sept. 16, 2019, in the Cumberland and Union roads area.

A motorcyclist is dead after a collision at Cumberland and Union roads in Saanich Monday afternoon.

The collision, which was between a car and a motorcycle, happened at around 12 p.m. Police said the male driver of the motorcycle died at the scene.

The driver of the car was not injured. Police said that driver is being investigated for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

Saanich police say traffic is being rerouted around a serious crash in the Cumberland Road and Union Road area. Collision analysts and forensic identification officers are still at the scene. The BC Coroners Service has been notified.

Police said they are in the process of contacting the family of the motorcyclist.

“This is a terrible crash that has taken away a man from his family. Our sincerest condolences are extended to them all,” Sgt. Julie Fast with Saanich police said.
