Canadian coffee giant, Tim Hortons, will be closing down all dining room seating indefinitely.
The company released the news Monday morning that starting on Tuesday, March 17, they will be limiting their service to take-out, drive thru and delivery until further notice.
To contribute to social distancing that has been called for by public health officials, starting tmrw, our restaurants will focus on take-out, drive-thru and delivery service where available, and close all dining room seating until further notice. “Tim Hortons restaurants are gathering places for our communities across the country. As Canada’s leading restaurant brand, we have a responsibility not only to serve our guests – but to protect them and our team members during this uncertain time,” reads a public statement from the popular Canadian brand.
Tim Hortons had already set up company-wide restrictions as a result of COVID-19 by banning reusable mugs earlier this month. They also scrapped using any cups at all in their annual Roll Up The Rim contest, relying entirely on a digital platform instead.
“This is being done to contribute to social distancing that has been called for by public health officials. More information will be shared shortly about what this means for restaurant operational procedures,” reads the statement.
Tim Hortons isn’t the first major brand to resort to nationwide closures as a result of COVID-19 concerns. GoodLife Fitness has made the decision to close all of their facilities in Canada until health officials advise them they can reopen.
“These measures will help us make a difference for the health and safety of the people we love, and the communities we live in and care deeply about, during this public health crisis.”
