Three vehicle collision closes Highway 4 near Port Alberni

WatchAn air ambulance arrives near Port Alberni following a multi-vehicle incident on Highway 4 Thursday night.

Highway 4 was closed in both directions near Port Alberni for several hours Thursday night after a multi-vehicle collision.

BC Emergency Health Services says it received a call at 6:49 p.m. Thursday about a motor vehicle incident involving 3 vehicles on the Old Nanaimo Highway, near Lacy Lake Road.

An air ambulance and three paramedic ground units responded.

RCMP say five patients were taken to hospital with varying levels of injury severity, with most patients being released that same night.

The RCMP did not say exactly how many of the five were released from hospital.

Drive BC tweeted the road reopened shortly after midnight.
