Three Mounties suffered non-life threatening injuries in a collision with a logging truck that lost its load near Lake Cowichan.

Officers from the Community-Industry Response Group were heading southbound on Pacific Marine Road just after 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say as they turned a corner at the 22-kilometre mark coming from Mesachie, part of a logging truck heading northbound struck one police vehicle, causing it to lose its load, before striking a second police vehicle.

The three injured Mounties were transported to a local hospital for an assessment.

A collicion analyst and commercial vehicle safety inspector were dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The portion of forestry road where the collision happened was closed in both directions for “an undetermined length of time,” police said, and it was expected to reopen once the investigation was complete.

Travellers are asked to use an alternate route in the meantime.
