Thousands of people are without power on west Vancouver Island.
BC Hydro says 2,337 customers in Tofino and 2,307 customers in the Ucluelet area lost electricity Sunday, in three separate outages caused by transmission circuit failure.
The outages hit just before 10 a.m., according to BC Hydro. In latest updates, it says its crews have been assigned to restore the power and should be on scene around noon. Estimated restoration times are currently unavailable on the company’s website.
Transmission circuit failure outages occur when a major transmission line is unable to deliver electricity, BC Hydro explains. “This could be caused by a variety of factors, from a damaged transmission tower to a lightning strike,” it said.
