Three years ago, first responders and the rest of the community mourned when West Shore RCMP Const. Sarah Beckett was killed in an impaired driving crash in Langford.

On Friday, on the third anniversary of her death, West Shore RCMP said they are remembering one of our own.

“Constable Sarah Beckett thank you for your service, may you rest in peace,” West Shore RCMP said in a statement. Beckett, an 11-year veteran of the force and mother of two, had just returned from maternity leave when she died.

In July 2017, Kenneth Jacob Fenton was sentenced to four years in prison for striking Beckett’s police cruiser and killing her. He pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death. In January 2019, he was granted limited day parole to attend a treatment centre in the Fraser Valley for 70 days.

Since Beckett’s death, memorials has been installed at the West Shore detachment. There are plans underway to build a memorial park and create a scholarship fund in her name.

To raise money for the scholarship fund, the Sarah Beckett Memorial Run is being held on April 13. The five-kilometre family run and walk will start at Belmont Secondary School in Langford. For more information, go here.
