Gold and Silver Guy, a rare commodity dealer in Nanaimo, was robbed last month.

Nanaimo RCMP are looking for two thieves they say broke down a door, cut a hole in a wall and managed to crack a safe at a precious metal and commodity dealer.

The owner of Gold and Silver Guy on Townsite Road discovered on Jan. 21 that sometime overnight, a rear door had been broken open and an interior wall was busted through  — all to reach the safe.

“There’s about $60,000 in merchandise missing,” an employee at the shop confirmed to CHEK News Friday.

Police have yet to make any arrests in the incident but have released footage from the business that they think might help crack the case.

The footage shows two men in the parking lot out front of the coin store, at around 4 a.m.

While there’s no direct link between the two in the video and the crime itself, police believe they may have information that could lead them in the right direction.

Investigators are certain the individuals shown in the attached photos have knowledge that can assist in this investigation. These two need to be identified and spoken with said Const. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

This isn’t the first time the company has been the victim of theft.

In 2021, its Qualicum Beach location was completely turned inside out when thieves busted down the front door and smashed several display cases, clearing out most of the store’s inventory.

Then it happened again at its Duncan location in 2022.

This marks the 15th incident involving one of his several Vancouver Island businesses.

Anyone with information that could help authorities in this case are urged to contact the Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
