Mounties in Nanaimo are searching for a suspect who allegedly set off a can of bear spray inside a 7-Eleven.

Nanaimo RCMP say that around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, a man wearing a camo hoodie and a face mask entered the convenience store on Bowen Road. According to the report, he discharged a can of bear spray inside the store, then stole a small amount of food before fleeing.

The two clerks working that night were treated by paramedics with BC Emergency Health Services but didn’t need any additional medical treatment, police say.

Authorities canvassed the area with a police dog but could not find the suspect.

CCTV footage of the incident was acquired. Police are now circulating the image below, asking the public to keep an eye out for anyone who matches the man’s description.
