WatchRising food prices put a particular strain on local food banks like the Mustard Seed here in Victoria. As they struggle to keep up, there's a special gift that comes once a year that is helping to ease the sticky situation.

The Mustard Seed in Victoria was treated with a special delivery on June 19.

For the fifth year, Merry Maids partnered with Island Nut Roasters for Project Peanut Butter. It’s a campaign, which started back in 2004, that collects the high protein snack for those in need.

“Having this kind of support especially in the form of something like peanut butter which is high protein and high demand is fantastic,” Duncan Chalmers with The Mustard Seed.

This year, the two companies also teamed up with Pepper’s foods to raise a record-breaking 2,700 jars of the much-loved food spread. For every jar donated, the three companies matched the donation with three jars.

Since the campaign began, almost 8,000 jars have been collected.

Merry Maids plans to continue the project and hope to eventually raise 10,000 jars donated in one year.

“Were finding were really doing well with peanut butter and our customers seem to love it and are getting behind it,” Matt Tanner, employee with Merry Maids

The Mustard Seed helps over 1,000 families every year in Victoria and relies completely on donations.
