The Grinch came early to Campbell River.

Mounties say they’re searching for a thief who took “a page out of the children’s classic” and stole numerous illuminated ornaments, including 30 candy canes and one five-foot-tall wire-framed deer, from a lawn display.

Officers were notified of the theft on Friday, Dec. 9, after the culprit looted the Dolly Varden Road display, which was part of a “highly decorated” neighbourhood in the city’s north end, according to RCMP.

“Our hope is that someone may know this Grinch and convince them to let their heart grow five sizes and return the items to their rightful place,” said Const. Maury Tyre, media relations officer, in a news release.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
