A text message scam is currently targeting British Columbians where fraudsters are pretending to be the provincial government and offering money for people being “fully immunized.”

Multiple Island residents have started to receive text messages from an unknown number with what appears to be a Manitoba area code.

The message states it is from the BC Government and reads, “You are eligible to receive $100 because you are fully immunized.”

The message also provides a link to a URL that appears to be a BC Health link, however, ends in .org as opposed to the .bc.ca

The link takes you to a real-looking e-deposit page where the scam asks you to enter your banking information.

Anyone who thinks they’ve been targeted by this scam is asked to report it to the local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre even if no financial loss occurred.
