Watch With Christmas just around the corner, Santa is making a stop in downtown Victoria with his elves. The 38th Island Farms Santa's Light Parade is kicking off the holiday season for the capital region on Saturday.

About 30,000 people lined the streets of downtown Victoria during last year’s Island Farms Santa’s Light Parade and this year is expected to be no different.

The 38th annual parade, taking place Saturday has about 70 entries and all of them have some sort of light element.

“We try and bring in new and exciting entries, we try and step up the entries,” said Kelly Kurta, executive director of the Greater Victoria Festival Society. “We work with a lot of our participants in that to change things, to do something a little different every year.”

CHEK News will be providing live coverage of the parade starting at 5 p.m. on TV, Facebook and YouTube.

“It’s something we like to do every year, we give back to the community,” said Rob Germain, general manager of CHEK News. “Broadcasting the Island Farms Santa’s Light Parade gets everybody in the Christmas spirit.”

This will be the 15th time CHEK broadcasts it live.

“This is very important to us,” Germain added. “Serving the local community, delivering local programming and what better than something like a parade that everybody can enjoy.”
