BC Ferries is advising customers normally travelling between Duke Point and Tsawwassen of a temporary closure at the Nanaimo-based terminal in the final weekend of January.

The corporation says the Duke Point terminal will be closed on Jan. 26 and 27 to replace the vehicle ramp at the facility.

Sailings of the route will be operated at the Departure Bay terminal.

The sailing times on those days will be different from what BC Ferries currently runs on the Duke Point-Tsawwassen route.

BC Ferries says the vehicle ramp and apron has been in place at Duke Point since the terminal opened in 1997 and needs to be replaced.

The corporation says the dates chosen to have work done at the terminal were based on them being traditionally the least busy travel days of the year.

A barge and crane will be used to remove and replace the existing apron.
