A Courtenay teenager was killed in a motorcycle crash over the weekend, say police.

Emergency personnel responded to a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle on the Island Highway North near Endall Road in Black Creek at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 7), according to a Comox Valley RCMP press release.

Mounties say based on a preliminary investigation, the operator of the motorcycle, a 16-year-0ld from Courtenay, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a vehicle crossing the highway.

The teenager died at the scene, despite attempts from emergency personal to save his life while the driving of the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

“The Comox Valley RCMP offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of this young person. Undoubtedly, our entire community will be impacted by this heartbreaking loss,” Const. Monika Terragni, Comox Valley RCMP media relations officer, said in a press release.

Comox Valley RCMP says they are being assisted by the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) to further investigate the crash.
