Nanaimo RCMP are looking for a suspect in connection with a theft that could have endangered public safety.

On Sunday morning, September 29, a man was captured on a store surveillance camera tampering with a fire hydrant outside the Marks Work Warehouse on Uplands Drive.

The suspect alllegedly removed metal from the inner piping attachment for the fire hose, rendering the hydrant inoperable.

Maintenance crews had to be called in to repair the damage.

RCMP say the suspect is a Caucasian man, approximately 45-55-years-old and was pushing a shopping cart.

He was wearing a tan coat, white running shoes and a kind of black strap wrapped around his waist and legs.
