On Thursday afternoon, an SUV travelling along West Saanich Road ended up crashing onto a beach in North Saanich.

According to eyewitnesses, the SUV veered off course and came to a crashing halt on the shoreline of Patricia Bay.

“I just heard a screech, honk, swung my head around and noticed the car was sailing over the edge,” said Jay Ranson, an eyewitness to the incident.

“Cleared the bench, bounced off the path and lucky, very lucky not to hit the boulders down there or roll.”

Witnesses also claim the female driver of the white Nissan Pathfinder, was the only person in the car.

Pictures show Saanich Police and fire crews, both onsite and assisting at the scene of the crash.

No other vehicle or pedestrian was involved in the incident, according to witnesses.

The female driver was taken to hospital, with what a few witnesses said appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

There is currently no word from police on how the wreck happened or if any charges will be laid.
