Suspected thief hides in Nanaimo store bathroom for hours after closing before allegedly stealing monitors

Nanaimo RCMP are looking for a suspected thief who hid out in a stall in a store’s bathroom for hours before allegedly sneaking out and committing a crime.

A motion alarm had been detected in the business at around 4 a.m. on Sunday.

When Loss Prevention Officers reviewed in-store cameras, they noticed a man walking out the store’s main entrance at that time. They then determined that the same man had entered through the main entrance on Saturday at 9:06 p.m.

Police say that at some point, the suspect went into the men’s bathroom and locked himself in a stall. They believe he stayed there until several hours after the store closed, he then lifted himself up through the ceiling tiles and crawled over to the Loss Prevention Officer office where he broke through the tiles and dropped inside.

He is suspected of having grabbed two monitors before walking out of the office and leaving the store.

If you can help identify the suspect, please callNanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
