A suspected impaired teenage motorist managed to crash their vehicle into another vehicle that was being towed after its driver was caught driving while intoxicated, police say.

The incident happened sometime around 11 p.m. on Feb. 25 in the 600-block of Latoria Road in Colwood.

According to the West Shore RCMP, a tow truck towing a vehicle that had been impounded after its 29-year-old driver was caught allegedly driving while impaired.

West Shore RCMP says the tow truck was driving down Latoria Road when an allegedly impaired 17-year-old motorist with a learner’s licence struck the tow truck on the driver’s side door.

The 29-year-old was issued an immediate roadside prohibition while the 17-year-old was arrested and released on an undertaking to an adult with a court date in June 2022, say Mounties.

“West Shore RCMP remains dedicated in our continuous effort toward removing impaired driver’s from our roads. Do not hesitate to call the West Shore RCMP if you suspect an impaired driver,” said Const. Meghan Groulx, spokesperson for the West Shore RCMP, in a press release.

No one was hurt in the incident.
