Shortly after 10:15 a.m. Feb. 25th, West Shore RCMP responded to a call regarding a possible assault around the 700 block of Walfred Road in Langford.

“Officers arrived on scene immediately following that call and realized the suspect had left that home and fled and we believe he was in possession of a firearm as well,” says West Shore RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Nancy Saggar.

Police then blocked off the area, and officers could be seen with their service rifles drawn, blocking the road with their cruisers.

“Police set up containment, we believed that suspect had entered into the wooded area of Walford Rd. and Latoria Rd,” says Saggar.

“There’s a large wooded area in that section of the neighbourhood.”

The emergency response team including a K9 unit and an RCMP helicopter worked to locate the suspect, who was found nearby.

“We did locate the suspect in that wooded area, we have arrested one individual,” says Saggar.

“We believe there is no ongoing threat here.”

The suspect is still in police custody and facing multiple charges.

“We’re looking at careless use of a firearm as well as unlawful possession of a firearm,” says Saggar.

“This individual, the suspect, does not have a valid firearms license, however we still are looking into details of how that firearm was used, so again there is potential here for further charges, but right now this individual has been arrested under those charges.”

An investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
