Suspect in alleged knife assault arrested at gunpoint by VicPD officer

A suspect was taken into custody on Monday evening after allegedly attacking two people with a knife.

VicPD say officers were called to the 900-block of Pandora Avenue just after 7 p.m.

They located two victims and spoke with several witnesses.

One of the alleged assaults was captured by a security camera allowing officers to identify a suspect.

VicPD say a short time later, a patrol officer found the suspect in a nearby park near Mason Street.

When the officer moved to stop the man, he began to walk away and ignored commands to halt.

VicPD say the suspect then turned around to face the officer who, knowing the man had been armed, drew his service weapon and ordered him to the ground.

The suspect obeyed and was held until additional officers arrived on scene to take him into custody.

He is due to appear in court on Tuesday to face charges including assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
