A Victoria man was arrested Thursday night after an alleged sexual assault at a business on Belleville Street and an alleged indecent act at the Bastion Street Parkade on Yates Street.

Victoria police were called to the Belleville Street business on Thursday afternoon after they received a report of a sexual assault. When officers arrived, they were met by security staff, a woman and a bystander who had come to the woman’s aid.

The woman told police the man approached her in a bathroom and sexually assaulted her. The bystander was also in the bathroom and drove the man away, police said. The woman was not physically injured and did not require medical attention. The bystander reported the incident to security who called the police. Officers were given a description of the suspect.

Then at around 10:30 p.m., VicPD was called to the Bastion Street Parkade for a report that a man was committing an indecent act while following a woman. That woman’s description of the suspect matched the description from the earlier sexual assault. Officers found the suspect and took him into custody. The woman in the parkade incident was not physically injured.

Police are recommending charges for the indecent act and the sexual assault investigation is ongoing. The man’s name has not been released at this time.
