The West Shore RCMP have arrested a suspect who allegedly stole a transit bus and broke into a home near View Royal on Wednesday morning.
According to police, around 6:42 am on May 13, they received a report of a stolen BC Transit bus that had been parked outside of Victoria General Hospital.
The report from BC Transit suggested that the bus driver was on break at the hospital and when the transit driver returned to the vehicle, they realized it was missing,
Police added that there were no passengers on the bus at the time it was reported missing.
Then, authorities said that “a short time later” officers were advised the missing bus had collided into a rock wall along Herbate Rd, near the Barker Rd intersection, in View Royal.
According to West Shore RCMP, a male suspect was seen running out of the bus following the collision.
Approximately 15 minutes after the stolen bus was reported, RCMP said they received a second call – this time from a resident near the 2700 block of Herbate Rd. The report from the resident was that “a male suspect had broken into the residence and ran away when the complainant approached him,” said a statement in the West Shore RCMP release.
According to the report, police arrived within minutes, searched the surrounding area, and located the suspect a short distance away.

The suspect has been identified by authorities as a 19-year old male, who is currently in police custody.
West Shore RCMP said they are continuing their investigation and the suspect is expected to appear in court later on Wednesday.
