Investigators have released new details and a suspect photo in an apparently targeted north Nanaimo shooting that left one person in serious condition earlier this month.

The shooting occurred at a home at the corner of Lost Lake Road and Laguna Way around 8 p.m. Thursday, July 7.

Police say it resulted from a dispute between the suspect and a man living in the home, ending with the suspect shooting the man in the leg.

A newly released surveillance photo shows the suspect walking up the driveway of the victim’s home in the moments prior to the shooting with a SkipTheDishes bag. The victim, a man in his early 30s, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

A woman who lives several doors down told CHEK News at the time she was in her backyard when a woman came scrambling over the fence at around 8 p.m.

“She was crying, shaking and she couldn’t say what happened, she just told us please save me because somebody pointed a gun to my head and my boyfriend pushed me out from the door to save me,” said Halina Grzyb.

She stayed with neighbours for about 15 minutes until police came to take her away. Neighbours said the woman told them the shooter was demanding money. None of the witness accounts have been confirmed by police.

Police say they are also searching for another suspect in the case. No surveillance images of that person are available, but the person was driving an older-model white Honda Accord as the getaway car, according to police.

Investigators say despite no arrests being made, they don’t believe there’s any risk to the public.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345, and quote file number 2022-23386.
