SunChips Harvest Cheddar and Munchies has been recalled due to a possible salmonella contamination.

Frito Lay Canada has recalled SunChips Harvest Cheddar and Munchies Original Snack Mix due to possible salmonella contamination from its seasoning supplier.

SunChips Harvest Cheddar and Munchies Original Snack Mix are the two lines that are affected, and no other flavours of the SunChips.

Frito Lay Canada says it is issuing this voluntary recall after its seasoning supplier identified it was potentially contaminated with salmonella, but no salmonella was found in the seasoning supplied to Frito Lay Canada.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, common food sources of salmonella include raw or undercooked poultry, pork, ground beef, eggs, egg products; unpasteurized dairy products like raw milk and cheese; and raw fruits and vegetables.

The bacteria can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps and while most people can recover without treatment, some may need to be hospitalized. The elderly, infants and those with impaired immune systems are at the highest risk of severe illness.

The following chips are included in the recall, and customers who have these products are encouraged to dispose of them:

  • All sizes of SunChips Harvest Cheddar chips with a best before date between July 16, 2024 and Aug. 13, 2024
  • All sizes of Munchies Original Snack Mix with a best before date between July 16, 2024 and Aug. 13, 2024
