Four people and two cats have been displaced following a house fire on Montreal Street in Victoria over the weekend.

According to the Victoria Fire Department, crews attended a structure fire at a home in the 400-block of Montreal Street just before 2 p.m. on Sunday after receiving reports of smoke coming from the second floor.

When the fire crews got to the scene, flames had broken through the second-floor windows and were touching the side of the roof.

Although crews were able to knock down the fire and douse the flames, the department says the blaze caused more than $100,000 in damage.

However, they also say the damage was contained to two rooms and their contents.

The four residents along with their two cats will be receiving assistance from the Canadian Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the department.
