More traffic woes struck Highway 4 in the Cameron Lake Bluffs area of Vancouver Island on Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after 4 p.m., the highway was closed between Koen Road and MacMillan Provincial Park due to strong winds, according to DriveBC.

The winds are expected to ease around 8 p.m. TransBC says another update about the highway closure is scheduled for 8 p.m. on the DriveBC website.

It’s the latest challenge for the highway, which was closed for weeks due to a wildfire burning near Cameron Lake.

Slope stabilization work is underway along the highway, including nets hung by cranes to catch potential falling debris caused by the fire.

Traffic is closed along the highway between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for when it’s open to single-lane alternating traffic between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The province notes that a lengthy detour around the highway, which involves taking logging roads from Lake Cowichan to Port Alberni, remains open.
