A stretch of Burnside Road West in View Royal is closed to traffic in both directions due to downed power lines, according to West Shore RCMP.
Mounties in a post on X (formerly Twitter) around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, say the road at the 1200-block is closed and BC Hydro crews are on scene working to restore a power outage.
They say a fallen tree downed the power lines.
“Traffic is affected in the area,” said RCMP in the post.
Staff at Little Friends, a childcare centre near the road closure, took to Facebook around 8:30 a.m. saying crews are turning commuters around.
“They’re taking down a huge (100-foot) tree,” reads the social media post. “It also took down the power lines and neighbours have been evacuated.”
On its website, BC Hydro says more than 280 customers in areas west of Wilkinson Road, southeast of Helmcken Road and north of the Trans-Canada Highway are impacted by the power outage.
The power went out at 5:26 a.m. and is expected to be restored around 3 p.m.
