The B.C. government announced Tuesday that it has formally extended the provincial state of emergency until May 11.

The coronavirus pandemic continues to keep British Columbia in a state of emergency.

On Tuesday, the B.C. government announced that it formally extended the provincial state of emergency until May 11.

Extending the declaration allows government and health management officials to continue using “extraordinary powers” under the Emergency Program Act. The province can only extend its declaration for two weeks at a time.

“I know how hard people have been working to keep others safe. The final mile of this pandemic is proving more difficult, but if we all keep doing our part to follow public health orders, including staying close to home, we will get through this sooner rather than later,” said Premier John Horgan in a press release.

B.C. first declared a state of emergency back on March 18, 2020, as coronavirus cases were climbing worldwide.
