Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement alerting to high winds for Greater Victoria and the Southern Gulf Islands.
Wind speeds are expected to hit 50 km/h gusting to 70 km/h throughout the day Saturday and into the evening period.
“Strong west to southwest winds are expected with gusts up to 70 km/h in the Juan de Fuca Strait until early this evening,” the weather agency said in a statement on its website.
The high winds are the result of a ” strong westerly through Juan de Fuca” that is developed Saturday morning behind a frontal system that passed across southern Vancouver Island overnight, the agency notes.
