Sooke RCMP are asking any witnesses to come forward after a complaint of a sexual assault was reported Wednesday.

Police say the incident happened in the area of Phillips Road and Sunriver Way last Sunday around 2 p.m.

The victim told police she was walking on Sunriver Way when she noticed an unknown male walking behind her.

After losing sight of the male, police say she later encountered him on a path by the Sooke River when the male spoke to her.

The victim reported a weapon was produced and she was sexually assaulted.

Sooke RCMP says the victim was able to escape by fighting back and the suspect may have been injured.

Police describe the suspect as a dark-tanned Caucasian or with an “ethnic background”, about 5’10” tall with an average build of 180 to 200 pounds.

He has dark, untidy hair that is short to medium length, a full dark beard, yellowing teeth and brown eyes.

RCMP say the suspect wore a dark hoodie that did not have drawstrings, dark blue jeans and running shoes.

Anyone who was in the area around the time of the assault is asked to contact Sooke RCMP (250-642-5241) to review any video surveillance for anyone matching the suspect description.
