WATCH: A Sooke man says he was stalked and chase by a cougar and had to hit it with an axe to get away.
A terrifying tale is emerging about an encounter with a cougar.
A man says he was stalked by the big cat and had to hit it with an axe to escape.
It happened in the Sooke area just before 5 p.m. on Thursday.
The man was walking in a rural area near Pascoe Road when a cougar began stalking him and then chased him.
He jumped over a log to get away but the cougar came after him so he hit it with an axe.
An area resident told CHEK news the man believes it’s the same aggressive animal that stalked him about three weeks ago.
The B.C. Conservation Service was called but there’s no update on the status of the cougar.
