A well-known property in the Greater Victoria area is on the market.

The Sooke Harbour House, a 33,405 square foot, 28 room boutique hotel with oceanfront views, restaurant and a lounge, is up for sale for $5.63 million.

According to the online web listing, the sale is court-ordered.

The popular and award-winning sits on 2.55 acres of waterfront property near Whiffen Spit in Sooke.

Sooke Habour House was opened more than 30 years ago by Frederique and Sinclair Philip.

According to B.C. Supreme Court documents, in 2014, the Philips entered into a share purchase agreement that ultimately saw SHH Holdings and SHH Management, which are owned by Timothy Durkin, take over operations of the resort.

In 2017, Durkin filed a lawsuit against the Philips alleging that they tried to take control of the hotel and its management with “uniformed guards” brought to the property. Later that same year, B.C. Supreme Court judge granted an interim injunction and ordered the Philips to “immediately quit and leave the business” premise.

Meanwhile, according to a CBC article in 2018, a grand jury in Alabama indicted Durkin and three others, for allegedly being involved in a multi-million-dollar Ponzi scheme.
