Various sawmills in B.C. are on the chopping block as more shift cuts are on the way.

Vancouver-based sawmill company Canfor will slice production to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Starting March 30, the company says it will impose a three week curtailment, reducing lumber production by approximately 40 per cent, or in other words, about 70 million board feet.

Canfor hasn’t named the mills that will be affected by this decision but says curtailments and other measures will be spread over a number of its facilities.

Canfor’s planned capital spending for 2020 will also be reduced by an additional $20 million. This is on top of budget cuts previously announced, meaning the total capital spending this year will fall about 100 million dollars short compared to 2019.
