A Vancouver Island woman is a little richer these days.

According to a British Columbia Lottery Corporation press release issued on Monday, Brenda Schroeder recently won $100,000 on a Season’s Greeting scratch ticket that she purchased at Tillicum Centre in Saanich.

Schroeder, a resident of Victoria, actually purchased a bunch of tickets and decided to scratch all of them while waiting for her scooter to charge at the mall.

“I had started to scratch my ticket and noticed that I could be a winner, but I decided to scratch the other three first before I went to check them,” Schroeder said in a press release.

When she checked her tickets, Schroeder saw what many dream of seeing, a winning ticket for $100,000.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing . . . so many zeros on the screen,” she said.

According to the BCLC, Schroeder then told her friend about her big win, but her friend, understandably, didn’t believe her at first.

“She was shocked as well, and it was the background noise of all the excitement that made her come to the realization that I was not joking and this was real,” the Victoria winner recalled.

Schroeder plans to put some of the winnings towards the purchase of a new home for her and her grandson. She also plans to share some of the money with the rest of her family.
