The Underground Donut Tour, dubbed "The World's Best Donut Tour," is launching in Victoria on Friday, Aug. 11, 2023. Tour guides will take foodies to four donut shops throughout the city while also sharing the history of each location, organizers say.

Whether opting for sweet or savoury, Underground Donut Tour organizers say foodies should bring their appetite when the walking tour stops by Victoria.

The tour, dubbed “The World’s Best Donut Tour,” launches this Friday, Aug. 11, in Victoria and guides participants through the city’s downtown, Inner Harbour, Market Square and Chinatown, according to organizers in a news release.

And they aren’t glazing over the details, saying Wednesday that the tour will showcase “the best donut shops” B.C.’s capital has to offer.

From Empire Donuts to Friend and Family Bake in Fantan Alley, they say participants will visit four shops as tour guides “share the history of each location, along with many local sights, sounds, and tastes of the area.”

The tour has already travelled globally, stopping by cities like Chicago, Dublin and Miami, and its founder finds Vancouver Island is ideal for the next leg.

“Victoria is such a beautiful city with so much to see and do. From gorgeous architecture to the focus on sustainable living, indigenous culture, and finally an incredible food scene,” said Jeff Woelker, founder of the Underground Donut Tour.

“We have some absolutely delicious donuts lined up for this tour. We can’t wait for our guests to come and check them out.”

Meanwhile, the tour’s Victoria city manager, Sage Schmied, says they’re “so excited to get this tour started,” adding, “…the donuts are absolutely delicious.”

Organizers say tours will run year-round numerous times daily with the latest schedule online.

But how much dough will participants have to dish out? Tickets, sold on a first-come, first-served basis, are $73 for adults and $60 for children 10 and under and can be purchased here.
