Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Goldstream to Mill Bay.
The weather agency is warning that the Malahat Highway area, which spans between Goldstream and Mill Bay, could see anywhere from 10 centimetres to 20 centimetres of snow Sunday afternoon.
“An unstable airmass will continue to give snow heavy at times to the Malahat Highway. Near 10 cm of snow had been reported this morning and additional amounts of 5 to 10 cm can be expected this afternoon before the snow changes to rain showers,” Environment Canada said in a statement on its website.
It comes as many parts of Vancouver Island were blanketed with snow — from just a few flurries in some areas to a winter wonderland in others.
CHEK News viewers reported snowfall as far south as Saanich and Langford, all the way to Port Hardy and the northern tip of the Island.
Gold River appears to be one of the hardest-hit communities, getting more than 30 centimeters while other areas, particularly north of the Greater Victoria region, including Lake Cowichan, Port Hardy and Port McNeill, saw considerable amounts of snow.
