Canada Post has suspended mail delivery for the day in Nanaimo, Ladysmith, and Gabriola Island due to the heavy snowfall.

The mail carrier issued a notice on their website that the three regions were under a red service alert, which means mail delivery is suspended for the day.

To prepare for service to resume, Canada Post is asking people to clear the snow and ice from walkways, stairs, and driveways to ensure mail carriers can safely access mailboxes.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for East Vancouver Island, and the Southern Gulf Islands, which call for an expected 5 to 10 cm of snow.

The snowfall is expected to last through to Thursday morning. The snowfall is expected to be the most intense overnight, with most of the snow coming in a time span of three to six hours.

Environment Canada warns that visibility may be affected by the heavy snowfall.
