A man snowboarding off groomed trails at Mount Washington died Monday after being found in a treed area.

Resort Risk Manager Dale Logan says the snowboarder was found in the afternoon and was unresponsive. He had been snowboarding within the resort boundary.

The incident has been turned over to the BC Coroners Service, who say the man was in his 20s.

“This is a very sad tragedy. Everyone here at the resort sends our sincerest condolences to the family and friends,” said Resort General Manager Peter Gibson in a release.

“I would like to thank our dedicated patrol staff for their assistance.”

The BC Coroners Service is investigating and says it’s still too early to draw any conclusions about the cause of death. This is the second snowboarding fatality in the past decade at Mount Washington. In 2015, a 15-year-old boy was found dead in a tree well following a snowboarding accident.
